Aznalcóllar
Mining locality set at the feet of the mountains, in the western part of the province, in a landscape of great interest, as evidenced by the fact that the area of Environmental Interest (Complejo Serrano de Interés Ambiental) due to its rich fauna and flora.
In addition, the town has some interesting monuments, such as the church of Nuestra Señora de Consolación.
History
Its name comes from the Arab Hinz-al-Kollar, which means fortified precints. It might be of Celt and Iberian origin. It was also called Iptucci.
It became important under the Romans due to the working of exploitation of its mines of pyrites. The ruins of an aqueduct which went to Italica date back to that period.
The ruins of a fortress in the AREA of the Castle are from the period of Al-Andalus.
It was conquered by Ferdinand III in 1247.
The economy of the town is still based on the working of its mines.
