Guadiamar Educa
Guadiamar Educa is a company that collaborates with the Andalusian Environmental and Water Agency. Since 2009 it has been managing the Guadiamar Visitor Centre, a facility for public use that has converted these unique natural surroundings into an environmental laboratory and an example in Europe for ecological recovery after the disastrous environmental catastrophe in 1998 caused by the breakdown of the dam holding back the Aznalcóllar mining pool.
In these unusual natural surroundings, Guadiamar Educa is working to bring society closer to the environment by providing deeper understanding of the ecological, economic, social, historical and cultural process of the surrounding area. The last tributary on the right bank of the Guadalquivir, which flows through the region from north to south until it empties into the marshes, also acts as an ecological corridor between two important natural areas, Doñana and Sierra Morena.
This strategic function, which turns the Guadiamar River into a motorway for iconic species like the Iberian lynx, is the reason for the centre's inclusion in the programme of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in protected areas like Doñana (ECST), and it is an information point for this natural area. Guadiamar Educa also collaborates closely with local, regional, provincial and interprovincial social-economic agents, as well as with the scientific entities and the university.
It is a company specialising in environmental education, nature and adventure tourism, and the height of the park's installation makes it possible to undertake therapeutic activities with children and young people. Practising adventure sports like exploring the Guadiamar River by canoe and high altitude routes through the park accompanied by monitors, provide great benefits for children and adolescents with psychological disorders, mental disabilities and learning difficulties; as well supporting the diversification of the company and adding a new attraction to a centre that is one of the provincial benchmarks for environmental education, as well as leisure, active and nature tourism.
Educa Guadiamar also organises guided tours by 4x4, bicycle, horse-drawn carriage and on foot, highlighting the importance of the bird life, as well as the natural, cultural and historical heritage. To achieve this, it has a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including graduates who have studied environment-related degrees and educators (primary and secondary education teachers, educators, psychologists and entertainment coordinators).
Open Thursday to Sunday, from 9am to 9pm.
