La Gran Vuelta Valle del Genal race was first held in 2013, and a lot of work has been put in to create this 130+ km route.
Designed so that you don't put any pressure on yourself and just run for the sake of it, to enjoy the so-called “Copper Spring” (the leaves turning golden), to take in all the colours and smells, and to fill every corner of the valley with crazy runners who love what they do.
In this race you won't find high peaks or impossible slopes – none of the paths have been chosen because of their high technical difficulty.
These paths that we enjoy today were made by country people, muleteers, cork workers, smugglers, “harvesters”, etc. People who were ultrarunners out of necessity, who left us this legacy that we now have to take care of; a network that forms the backbone of the Genal Valley.
Since its first edition, the Gran Vuelta Valle del Genal has been a member of the International TrailRunning Association, and counts towards the legendary UTMB.
Our route was approved by the Andalusian Federation of Mountaineering in 2013, and was an Andalusian Ultra Trail Championship in 2014 and 2016.
In 2015, the race was approved by the Spanish Federation of Mountain and Climbing Sports, and was part of the 2016 Ultra Mountain Running Cup of Spain.
