Torre del Reloj de Arquillos
The square tower is built on a plinth. The entire factory is made of masonry. It has two parts – one is double the height and there is a horseshoe arch with rusticated voussoirs. Above the door there is an arrow-slit window which illuminates the inside. There are another three windows on the other three sides. A triple moulding separates the first part from the second. Here there is a clock, a small square window and Doric pilasters at either end. Over the cornice there is a crafted iron structure, installed in 1884 for the bell and the weather vane.
In the 18th century, the church bells used to tell the time. In that period it was not common to build a municipal tower just to tell the time and it represents the confrontation between the town and church powers that took place under the reign of Charles III.
