Peñas de Aroche
El Paraje Natural Peñas de Aroche Natural Space is situated in the northwest of the Province of Huelva, in Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park. Geomorphologically, it is a landscape of great ravines and granite boulders, which are typical of the presence of a batholith. It is a somewhat mountainous area with many cistus plants, which are a very important nesting ground for the black vulture. Oak and cork oak forests are accompanied by heather, broom, strawberry trees and kermes oaks.
Given the large amount of birds living in the area, it has been declared a Special Protection Area for Birds. The sedentary birds here include the red kite, black vulture, golden eagle and black stork. Among the migratory birds that reproduce in this area you can observe the short-toed eagle, booted eagles and turtle dove.
Lynxes, otters and wild boar have also been seen and, together with deer, they are the object of famous Aroche hunts.
