Arjona
Village situated to the west of the province, south of Andujar in a landscape covered with olive trees.
It boasts some interesting monuments such as the Chapel of los Santos and las Sagradas Reliquias, the Church of Santa María, the Church of el Carmen and the Church of San Juan.
History
Its name apparently comes from Urgao, word made up of Chur Albus, meaning "white", and Gah, "height".
In Roman times, it enjoyed municipal status.
With the Christian re-conquest, led by King Fernando III in 1244, the village was besieged and laid waste.
In 1430, King Juan II donated it to Don Fabrique de Castro making it a duchy. Four years later, it was sold to the constable Don Álvaro de Luna.
It was given its Village charter in 1891.
