Casa Rural Arcos del Capellán

The Arcos del Capellán Country House is a tourist accommodation near the Sierra de Alcaparaín mountains and opposite the ruins of the Turón Castle. It is located midway between the Guadalhorce, Conde de Guadalhorce, Guadalteba, and El Chorro reservoirs and the Sierra de las Nieves Nature Reserve, Biosphere Reserve, on the road to El Burgo. It is less than one hour from Ronda, Antequera and Malaga.

It was built over some ancient annexes to the old Farm House, the remains of a cellar consisting of a series of brick arches that were repaired and preserved, together with the side walls made of brick and restored with lime mortar to make up the ground floor.

Using this restored structure as a basis, a new first floor was built at the same level as another smaller building also restored, keeping the existing stone walls and with a single floor. This makes the construction homogeneous and very spacious, with very high ceilings and very thick walls and roofed with Moorish tiles, in accordance with the climate and local aesthetics. It is divided into four completely separate living areas, two with two floors with access to the top floor by their respective interior staircases, and distributed round a central patio featuring a stone fountain with babbling water, and a further two smaller areas with only one floor.

Noble elements have been employed in consonance with the surroundings. Baked clay on the outside bench seats and window sills, flooring, plinths and sinks of stoneware. Marble kitchen worktops and sink. Stone flooring in the patio and entrance hall and stone steps and fountain. Wooden crossbeams, doors, window frames, staircases and chimney breasts and iron crosspieces, window grilles and balcony and staircase railings. Nasrid bricks for kitchen furniture, bathrooms and fireplaces and as bases for wardrobes and heaters.

The furniture blends harmoniously with the construction, a predominance of wood in tables and chairs with rush seats, iron in the cookers, doorsteps and wood-burning stoves and Nasrid brick couches. The very personal décor is based on farm tools and utensils and pieces of craft work made by the owners of the property. There is a preponderance of wicker utensils, wooden and ceramic ornaments, murals, fountain figureheads and friezes. Walnut-coloured ceilings and walls painted in ochre tones.
