Cola del Embalse de Arcos
The ebb of Arcos reservoir produces a backwater which in turn gives rise to an area of marsh which periodically floods due to an increase in the level of the water in the reservoir, thus creating an ideal habitat for the osprey and mallard.
Arcos Reservoir Beauty Spot, which covers 120 hectares, is a charming area on the white village route, just a few kilometres from the historic town of Arcos de la Frontera.
Most noteworthy are the large masses of tarajes, marsh vegetation consisting of reeds, bullrushes and common canes.
This is an important hibernation and nesting area, and its ornithological value is therefore significant. The osprey, Podiceps crisfatus, common coot and mallard are the highlights.
