Capilla de la Virgen de los Dolores
The Chapel of the Virgen de los Dolores in Archidona, was built in 1864 and inherited the knowledge, the skill and style of the old master builders. “Fruit of love of these parents for their daughter during her lifetime, in illness and after her death”.
The Chapel of the Aragoneses or Virgen de los Dolores is built around a central floor plan and is covered with a simple dome resting on pendentives. An access to the right leads to the sacristy and the buildings adjoining the choir and the vaulted family crypt, with a central support column.
The brick exterior is very interesting, featuring an access with a semi-circular arch between double pilasters and a two-bodied portico tower and a metallic bulbous spire resting over the doorway, a perfect example of the survival of the Baroque style during the 19th century. It has the characteristics of a later Baroque style.
Open during the opening hours of the Cemetery.
Free entrance.
