Arboleas Watchtower
The Arboleas Watchtower is located on the right bank of the River Almanzora. This small tower dates from the 12th century (Nasrid period) and has an octagonal floor plan. The people of Arboleas didn't use to live there due to its small size, but it was used as a watchtower. It is possible that it was once the minaret of an old mosque in Arboleas.
The Arboleas Watchtower features smooth and simple walls, and on one side it has a small cistern attached to store rainwater. An upper body with convex bricked-up windows as the only adornment has been attached to the old tower.
The Arboleas Watchtower is one of many that were built along the entire course of the River Almanzora. Unlike the others, which are circular, it has an octagonal floor plan, which suggests that it could have been rebuilt in the Muslim period, due to its shape and colour.
Only the exterior can be visited.
Free admission.
