Biography
Antonio Ranchal y Álvarez de Sotomayor was born in Lucena, Cordoba, in 1929 and died in Puente Genil on February 19, 2001. When he started his career he was known as the Aristócrata del Cante (the Singing Aristocrat), because he belonged to an important old family.
However, Antonio was never very keen of stages. His first appearance in public was not until 1959, at the Cordoba National Contest, where he won first prize in abandolaos singing. In the 1960s he recorded several albums and then he retired for some time, in order to return in the last few years of his life to sing songs from Cordoba on stage, which he performed better than most have ever done.
