Triunfo de la Inmaculada
In the town of Antequera, the Triunfo de la Inmaculada is a sculpture by Antonio del Castillo. Promoted by the Community of the Capuchin Friars, with a contract dated 4 October 1697, it was made to be placed in front of their convent. The artist only had to make the pedestal, as the sculpture of the Inmaculada to be placed on top had already been in the convent since 1681, brought by Father Francisco de Luque and located above the main door.
The Triunfo de la Inmaculada, an important Andalusian Baroque work of art, has the following structure: superimposed rectangular parallelepipeds with a narrow section between both of them, and on top of them a column with Corinthian capitals, a curved base, and the sculpture on top. The artist who made the alabaster image of the Inmaculada is unknown, but it is a very powerful and dynamic figure: her cloak flowing in the wind makes it look like she is outdoors, in a high place.
