The municipal granary was used by the city council to stockpiled wheat and safeguard grain supplies for the entire population. The building dates to the 17th century, although it has been the subject of various alterations and additions since then. The oldest part is the large nave or main store, located on the corner of Calle de Nájera and Cuesta de Barbacanas. It is a very compact section covered by a tiled Moorish ceiling and situated on a steep slope. The sandstone façade is a unique feature of the building and comprises a depressed arch upon which sits the three components of the city coat of arms.
Significant renovation work has been carried out in the interior, with some parts that had fallen into disrepair being restored. The sections of greatest architectural interest are the so-called Panera (bread basket), which was built in 1773, and the Strongbox or Chest, built in 1770.
It currently houses the Municipal Archive.
