Convento de los Remedios
This is the first convent to be founded in Antequera by the Franciscan Terceros order in 1519, in a place known as Las Suertes.
It was there that the small figure of the Virgen de los Remedios began to be the object of veneration, and was subsequently named the patron and perpetual benefactress of the Antequera. Due to the monastery´s remote location and the increased devotion to the statue, the friars moved to the city and began work on the current church (1628). The façade retains its original appearance.
The door frame itself is rather simple, but the door is noteworthy, as is the very beautiful steeple made completely of stone. The church is laid out in a Latin cross with naves and side chapels, with a straight chancel. The whole church is painted in tempera. The church´s main altarpiece is one of the most beautiful in Antequera.
