The convent was founded in Antequera in August 1637 by the order of the Trinitarios Descalzos. The current church was built between 1672 and 1683.
The church has a large interior with a ground plan in the shape of a Latin cross, a vault over the transept, and interconnecting side chapels which form naves. The choir stalls are located at the base.
In 1935, the main altarpiece and the religious images in the niches and chapel were destroyed by fire, although the side naves were not affected.
The sacristy is a work of outstanding architectural importance. It has a rectangular floor plan and an intricately structured vault. The additional decoration has a somewhat oriental inspiration.
