Convento de la Madre de Dios de Monteagudo
This convent church belonging to the Agustinas de la Madre de Dios de Monteagudo religious order was built between 1747 and 1761, and is of great interest to art experts.
The exterior structure has surprisingly tall brick walls, with two separate sections: the tower-dome of the main chapel, an elegant work in the Baroque-Mudejar Antequera style, and the lovely tower-belfry.
The church interior is one of the most beautiful creations in the Antequera Baroque architectural style. Thanks to a skilful interplay of straight lines, curves and concave surfaces, this very simple example of a convent church manages to achieve a spatial ensemble which is among the most original in all Spanish architecture.
