Craftsmanship in its purest form. There is no other way to define Angelita's work, an artesan from Laujar de Andarax who continues to weave rugs and blankets with her low warp loom.
His name is Ángeles, her shop "Artesanía La Plaza”, in Laujar de Andarax and her hands are one of the few in Andalusia and Spain that continue to weave 100% traditionally bags, tapestries, headboards, blankets and rugs the way it has always been done in Las Alpujarras with the traditional low warp looms.
New technologies and industrial advances have gradually moved this type of work to a rather underserving place. We are now used to seeing all kinds of items and objects covering hypermarkets. "Technological advances",which in a way have made us take a step back, as we have lost the value of having unique, 100% handmade objects in our homes with hours and hours of work behind them, which is the identity and the know-how of master craftsmen such as Ángeles.
