An unforgettable stay with your pet in Huelva
At this moment in time, for some of you it would be more than your life was worth to leave your dog in a home. If your friend is one of the family, he should be with you wherever you go. How about Huelva?
There are many Huelvas, and its ecosystems, landscapes, cultural, natural and industrial heritage are witness to this: El Rompido, Islantilla, Moguer, Lepe etc. It is obvious that we have many places to choose from for an unforgettable stay in the land of Columbus par excellence. Outdoor activities, horse riding, golf, fishing, hiking, so much to choose from! But what do we do with our pet? Doubtlessly, you'll need to organise an expedition where it will be welcome and you can take it with you wherever you go. Because in your case, hotels for dogs are not just an option.
There is accommodation in Huelva that accepts dogs , but for the moment at least, it must be outside the capital city. For example, in large hotels, like the Playacartaya Spa Hotel, a four-star hotel in Cartaya where you can bring a small or medium-sized dog (up to 15 kilos), or a cat, providing you do not bring more than two pets per room; however, you will have to pay a supplement per night.
Camping Giralda - in Isla Cristina is a first category site which allows pets to enter their facilities, although only in the camping area (not in the chalets and the hostel). Camping Playa Taray, in the same town, is also pet friendly. The sunsets in this island district are unforgettable, but that's not all. On a visit to the historic town centre of Isla Cristina you'll discover a site with squares, streets and Modernist buildings with touches of art nouveau like the Casa Gildita dating from 1920 and already included in the Immovable Heritage of Andalusia, or the extremely white church of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores.
Eating with pets in Huelva
The attraction of Playa lepera, in La Antilla, is its fine golden sands, as well as its wild appearance since there is no sea-front promenade. There you'll find Azalea Tapas, which not only allows pets, but also serves delicious tapas: Mozarabic cod, cheese-baked prawns and aubergine pâté are some of the most popular. Finger-licking good.
In the town of Ayamonte you can also eat in the company of your dog. Specifically, in Casa Barberi, where the menu features local products, consisting of fish, seafood, meats and cured Iberian products. These fried cuttlefish are sensational!
Hiking with pets
There are three Rail Trails for you to enjoy in Huelva, that is, old railway lines converted into trails. If you're only staying for a couple of days, you can get to hike while having a great time with your furry friend; however, always remember that, in accordance with current regulations, in these nature areas, he should always be kept on a lead so as not to disturb the rest of the hikers.
We recommend the Guadiana Rail Trail, which runs between the village of Puerto La Laja, located in El Granado, a small town in the province of Huelva with fewer than 600 inhabitants - on the border with neighbouring Portugal, and the mining village of La Isabel, in El Almendro, another village in the district of El Andévalo. The route is quite tough, with streams fitting very closely into the descent towards the Guadiana River, but it is well worth taking and making a small effort just to see the chapel, as well as the remains of mines and windmills, all part of the ethnographic heritage.
And what if we climb up to the Sierra de Aracena and the Picos de Aroche? You will be confronted by unspoilt and immaculate countryside. In Cortegana, for example, which is at an altitude of 690 metres, and lives mainly from breeding pigs, as well as from copper and sulphur mining. The source of the Chanza River is right in the Medieval town centre. Higher up, at the foot of the Castle - an emblem of the village, built by Sancho IV- you'll find the Visitor Centre, where you can go without any problems in the company of your pet to find out where to go and how to have a wonderful day in the Huelva mountains.
