The Gothic-Mudéjar-style church of San Martín has three naves separated by pointed, canted arches set on cruciform pillars, an asymmetric transept and a polygonal apse. The church has a pointed barrel vault, with a cloistered vault in the apse, while the side terminals are covered by sail vaults. The choir stalls are located at the base of the structure. There is a masonry and brick tower at the foot of the last section on the right. Construction is thought to have begun in the early 14th century in the Mudéjar style. The apse, the site of the chancel, and the first section of pillars date from this period.

Subsequently in the 15th century it underwent a series of additions, all carefully designed to complement the original structure. These included the Evangelio door, today walled in, and the Epístola door framed by buttresses and moulding, as well as an exterior altarpiece in fine Mudéjar-Gothic style.

The choir stalls, the tower and the Perdón door were built in the first third of the 16th century; this doorway is clearly in a different style from the prevailing religious architecture in the area, and is a magnificent example of the Portuguese Manueline style so characteristic of the rural churches of the Alentejo region. It is built from local sandstone. A large arch framed between two pinnacles contains another ogee arch at the entrance to the church.

The small Mannerist doorway which gives access to the sacristy was built in the early 17th century, and the sacrarium dates from the same century.
