De Alborán
The Alborán Nature Area, halfway between the coast of Almería and Africa, is a maritime settlement - a land of exceptional ecological value which includes the territory ofthe Island of Alborán, the Nube Islet and the water and seabed that surrounds it. It's located between two continents, in the converge of different waters, which makes it one of the most diverse parts of the the Mediterranean.
The sea is awash with bottlenose dolphin and the common pilcrow. The seabed, well conserved and favoured by the confluence of Mediterranean and Atlantic water, houses valuable formations of red and orange coral, as well as lush seaweed groves, whilst the land and intertidal areas include species such as Ribbed Mediterranean Limpet and the jaramago de alborán flowing plant.
The Alboran Sea is also an important point during the migrations of great cetaceans. The island, with volcanic origins, houses the main Andalusian nesting settlement of Audouin's gull and one of the largest settlements of yellow-legged gulls, as well as being a sleeping and feeding area for many migratory birds.
