Lent leads to Easter Week, when the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus are remembered by two local Passion Congregations: the Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno ("los moraos" or the purple ones) and the Brotherhood of Santa Vera Cruz ("los verdes" or the green ones).
Alhaurín el Grande Easter Week dates back to the 17th century and is one of the most important in the region, as it is perfectly organised by the brotherhoods.
Of all the activities carried out, the live staging of the Passion of Jesus is especially important. Together with the carefully presented processions, both brotherhoods carry out an amazing cultural event that gets many of the young people of Alhaurín involved.
Tradition and good work have led to its declaration as a Festival of National Tourist Interest in Andalusia.
