In summer 1996, the remains of the Royal Baths of al-Binya were unearthed in the Marinid palatial city of Algeciras, at the intersection of the streets Rocha and Muño Cobos. These baths were built by the Emir Abu Yusuf Yaqub between 1279 and 1285.

After the archaeological excavations, the perimeter walls, part of the system of channels and paving were taken to the María Cristina Park (beside the Marinid Walls). The well was completed with a waterwheel, a replica of one from the 13th century.

Currently, in room IV of the Municipal Museum visitors can see items of domestic hygiene, waterwheel buckets and other objects unearthed in these baths.
