Fuente de la Villa de Alcaudete
The town fountain of Alcaudete is located in what was once the road out towards Puerta de Alcalá a meeting and gathering place for the people of Alcaudete over the centuries.
The women went to the fountain with their ewers to get drinking water. The men let their horses and working animals drink there as they came and went from their work in the fields. Near the water, men and women conversed, discussed village news, and it was a meeting place for lovers and for matchmaking.
Initially it had two spouts and, in 1775, when Mr Juan de Mesa was mayor of Alcaudete, it was renovated to contain the three current spouts.
