Ermita Santuario de la Virgen de la Fuensanta
The Virgin de la Fuensanta Shrine is already named this way in the list of shrines of 1511, though according to tradition, its origins date back to the Middle Ages. The construction of the current shrine was completed in 1963, on the site of a previous one destroyed by an earthquake in 1951.
Its highlights include the use of lowered arches in the vault, which gives it a singular attractiveness, and its transept with tambour and cupola, which gives it great luminosity. Also important are the paintings of the niche by Francisco Baños.
It is located at the end of a kilometre-long foot walk which connects with the Alcaudete park. Here the Night of the Virgin is held, a nocturnal procession in which the people of Alcaudete gather in a festive atmosphere to pay tribute to her patron saint. It lasts all night long and ends with a mass at dawn.
