El Aljibe Botanical Garden
The El Aljibe Botanical Garden extends across over one hectare and is part of the Andalusian Network of Botanical and Mycological Gardens in Natural Areas of Andalusia, with the aim of conservation of the flora of Andalusia, scientific research and environmental education, both for students and the general public.
It is located in the town of Cadiz Alcalá de los Gazules, a site next to the highway to Jerez-Los Barrios, adjacent to the park's conservation centre. It has a characteristic soil and climate that, with rain, fog and mild temperatures, contribute to the conservation of lush vegetation.
The El Aljibe Botanical Gardens is a space that is representative of the unique flora of the Los Alcornocales Nature Park, comprising authentic botanical gems and some of the world's unique species: hornbeam, a survivor of past eras. Inside, a pleasant itinerary takes you through the different plant formations that grow here: the famous canutos (heads of rivers and streams), gall-oaks, cork trees, oak groves, forests of fog, wild olive groves, peats, verges of lakes and stony ground, etc. which grow associated to the different geological substrates of this nature area.
Free Entrance.
Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 2pm. Closed: Mondays; 29 November, 24, 25 and 31 December, 1 and 6 January.
