El Gandúl
The site of El Gandúl is located on the outskirts of the town and it is considered to be one of the most interesting parts of the town's heritage, together with the castle and the fortified site. El Gandúl is made up of Marchenilla Castle, Gandúl Palace and the Necropolis.
Marchenilla Castle was built in the 14th century. Remains of Roman constructions have been found here, which indicates the existence of a settlement centuries before. Today, the castle is made up of architectural structures from various periods. The Keep alone is an interesting monument. It is privately owned and is currently used as a summer residence. It is one of the best-preserved castles in the province.
El Gandúl Palace belongs to the marquisate of the same name. It is also privately owned and is currently used as a summer residence.
The Necropolis is a classic example of a settlement and megalithic tombs typical of the Chalcolithic period. This megalithic site has been designated a National Monument.
