Alfarería Los Puntas - Antonio y Juan Alfonso Fernández
Los Puntas Pottery - Alfonso Antonio Fernández, potter, with a lifetime dedicated to the production and dissemination of Almeria pottery in his workshop, Los Puntas, has managed to keep alive the whole process of traditional pottery, working on the wheel below floor level, a unique feature of potteries in Albox, and firing in a Moorish oven dating from the 8th century, declared historical and artistic heritage.
This potter of Albox has greatly influenced the promotion of his trade, and belongs to several associations such as the Albox Business Association and Oficio y Arte, the National Association of Craftspeople (of which he is a founder member); he was also vice-president of the Provincial Association of Craftspeople of Almería and has advised other organisations, including some outside Spain, such as the Roja Ceramics Workshop on the Island of Juventud, in Cuba.
In 1975 he was awarded a certificate of Master Craftsman by the Crafts Union, and on 17 January 2012, the Tourism, Commerce and Sport Council of the Regional Government of Andalusia awarded him the Master Craftsman Charter.
Along with Antonio, his brother Juan Eugenio Alfonso Fernández has also been a potter since he was 16 years old, working in Los Puntas pottery.
His excellent work has gained him several national prizes.
On the same date as his brother, the Tourism, Commerce and Sport Council of the Regional Government of Andalusia awarded him the Master Craftsman Charter.
Representative pieces from this workshop are in many of the world's museums, such as the National Pottery Museum of Oleiros (La Coruña), the Traditional Pottery Museum in Chinchilla (Albacete), the Culture Museum of Havana (Cuba) or the Ethnographic Museum in Hamburg (Germany).
