Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora del Carmen
In Aguilar de la Frontera, of the convent of the order Carmelitas Descalzos founded in 1590, only the temple remains, which toward 1890, was raised to the category of parish church, called Nuestra Señora del Carmen.
The building has a single nave with a quadrant vault reinforced by rib arches and lunettes, which a series of intercommunicated chapels that act as naves along its sides. The square presbytery has an altarpiece and individual side altarpieces (18th century).
Its sculptural heritage includes images of Cristo de la Expiración, the Sagrada Familia and Jesus Caído, as well as the altarpieces of the chapel of San Antonio de Padua (18th century). Likewise, highlighting its paintings, we must mention some of the artwork depicting the tasks of Friar Juan del Santísimo Sacramento (Calvario - ca. 1660-, Crucificado or San Luis Rabata) or the historic canvas of Mártires de Poley (20th century).
A stone cross stands outside (1902) which, later, was surrounded by a gate and artistically forged lights (1940s), imitating the popular Christ of the Lanterns of Cordoba.
Only open during hours of worship, there is mass at 8 p.m. every day.
