Iglesia de la Concepción (hospital)
Located in Aguilar de la Frontera, the origins of the Church of La Concepción have their roots in the primitive chapel of Santa Brígida and the Charity Hospital (16th century). At the beginning of the 19th century it was rebuilt in the Neoclassical style. Indeed, evidence of this style would be its elegant tower divided into three levels, which was not completed until 1982. The church was restored 2005.
It has an attractive façade, the interior comprises a central nave separated from the aisles by large semicircular arches on cruciform pillars, all endowed with a semicircular barrel vault with rib arches and lunettes. The main chapel features a semi-spherical dome set on pedentives, together with a Neoclassical altarpiece and a canopy, in the form of a finishing on the wall sheltering a Baroque crucifixion carving.
Further highlights are the altarpiece and chapel of the Virgen de la Antigua, Virgen de la Aurora (Alonso Gómez de Sandoval, c. 1760), San Francisco de Asís, the paintings of the Subida al Calvario, Santo Tomás de Villanueva and the Apostolado, among others
