Guainos - Ermita de la Sierra Trail PR-A 341
On the edge of the town of Adra, the Guainos - Ermita de la Sierra Trail (San Isidro Labrador) PR-A 341 offers a return journey from Guainos Baja, passing along the Sierra de Contraviesa the (Alpujarras Bajas).
The materials that support it are what is known as the Alpujarras complex, containing schists of varying consistency. The Río Grande in Adra acts as boundary to the east of this mountain chain, which separates it from Gádor. The southern part, which is where you will travel, is fairly rough with various deep ravines and many steep drops.
The route of the trail attempts to recover old paths used in times gone by, especially the cattle track known as Colada de la Lachanza, in two of its sections. The beginning of the trail is populated, as there are a series of mill buildings that show vestiges of the town's history: the Casa de la Zorrera, Guainos Altos and the Molino de Soriano mill.
There is a great tradition in this region, called the “Estrechura”, which is an alternative route to the path, since when there is a lot of water it is impossible to pass. The trail passes by some ruins of beautiful traditional architecture. You will pass near 3 neighbourhoods steeped in the traditional Alpujarras character that the town still preserves: Pérez, La Parra and Barranco de Almerín. The descent from the restored Shrine of San Isidro overlooking the sea is extremely beautiful.
Do not forget huge importance of the village with most history in the province of Almería: Abdera was founded the 8th century B.C by the Phoenicians, having always been linked to the fishing sector and the maritime world.
