Accessible tour of Cadiz best wineries
Wine touring in Cadiz is another form of tourism. We take a look at some notable wineries, but on this occasion we will be focussing on their accessibility.
Shall we talk about accessible wine tours? Well now, let's start off slowly so you can pull out a map, if you are thinking about where to visit in Cadiz and the key wineries to check out, especially if you are travelling with people with disabilities (or if you yourself have reduced mobility, sensory difficulties, or mental disabilities). Strolling with certain freely around these great cathedrals of wine, enjoying their guided tours, immersing yourself in a glass of wine, discovering the mysteries of the tasting… It's all possible as there are wineries that promote accessibility for all. Here are three recommended wineries with different degrees of accessibility, from highest to lowest.
Jerez de la Frontera
Wine tourism and Jerez wine have an intimate and special connection: it's almos timpossible to think of one without the other. If you are travelling to Jerez and you wish to visit one of the best wineries with a guarantee of accessibility, then this is the one for you: Williams & Humbert. This company is driven by two fans of traditional Andalusian wines.
Williams & Humbert Wineries. Its developers, back in 1877, were foreigners (Sir Alexander Williams and Arthur Humbert), although over time these wineries ended up in the hands of a family, the Medinas, with strong Jerez roots. Its facilities, with characteristic vaulted ceilings, are enormous and they facilitate movement free of obstacles. In fact, it is one of the wineries that boasts 100% accessible accreditation, which demonstrates its commitment to people with reduced mobility and other disabilities. It has a Museum of Jerez and it organises equestrian shows for visitors, displaying the choreographic talent of Cadiz horses. You can enjoy them with a drink in your hand.
El Puerto de Santa María
Let's start with the famous Marco de Jerez, the heart of the Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Denomination of Origin and where vines take root in albariza soil. In El Puerto de Santa María there is prestige in abundance.
Gutiérrez Colosía Wineries. Wines, brandies and vinegars are the products of this winery, which has been located at the mouth of the Guadalete River since 1838. It is this proximity to the river that grants its fine wines the perfect humidity. It is well-designed in terms of accessibility, given that mobility inside is partial and its toilets, despite not being adapted, are accessible. It also has parking for drivers with disabilities.
Osborne de "El Tiro" Winery. This is another symbolic place, so let's start with the brand itself. Osborne - this is an old winery, founded in 1772 - is a famous winery that, simply by pronouncing its name, you will already be thinking about wines. You can easily access this temple honouring Baco, and enter the fascinating world of brandy, for example. As the climax of your visit (accessible to people in wheelchairs), you will be offered a cocktail made with its best brandies. Cheers.
